The Sunday Refill – 7 Links for Your Weekend (17/5/20)

Seven up…

1) Russell Brand on Why People Are Suddenly Googling Prayer – Lots of people are talking about the spike in Google searches for “Prayer”. This is the comedian-turned-thinker Russell Brand’s take…

2) Running Small Groups on Zoom – This 25 minute presentation from Matt Searles looks at some principles for running church discipleship groups online, as well as some top tips for best practice.

3) Walking in the Spirit: An Interview on Faithful Motherhood – So I asked Zoe if she’d got any good links this week, and she gave two thumbs up to this Risen Motherhood podcast interview with Jani Ortlund on motherhood – especially good stuff for young mums in the throes of the little years, but she has a word for grandmothers too!

4) Free Kindle Book: Psalms in 30 Days: A Prayer Guide Through the Psalter by Trevin Wax – This looks like a great freebie eBook download for reading the Psalms each month.

5) Leading in a Crisis – New Wine have produced this handy replicable guide. You might also like this summary of a FIEC leadership seminar on leading in a ‘lengthy lockdown’ (note the lengthy aspect!).

6) Bono at 60 – Why is Ireland so ambivalent about its most famous son? – As a profile piece, this is fascinating in the Irish Times, marking the U2 frontman’s 60th birthday, but it has some really interesting cultural and ministry insights thrown in: “Celebrity and holiness don’t mix well. When you insert fame into righteousness, the fame inflates the righteousness to its own mad dimensions.

7) Sermon Surfing – For something a bit different, I dunno what this says about me, but this had me in stitches…

For what it’s worth, our hometown has been in the news this week as a reported ‘Coronavirus hotspot’. There’s so much there which the headlines aren’t picking up on, but you might like a gander at this little video we had fun making for Barrow Foodbank – for me, this encapsulates something of the heart of this place.

Quote of the Week:

“Think long-term. Prepare medium-term. Plan short-term.”

James Lawrence

And this is a little promo we put together for our new teaching series at GCB – but we hope it’s the kind of bitesize video that makes people think…

Sharing is caring. Know someone who might find these links a blessing? Why not forward it on?
