The Sunday Refill – 7 Links for Your Weekend (3/5/20)

Seven up…

1) Strategies for Winter: Redemptive Leadership in Survival Times – I continue to be hugely encouraged by the discerning writing of Andy Crouch & friends. If you read his post on ‘leading beyond the blizzard’ a few weeks back, this looks great as a follow-on.

2) How to Care for Friends with Anxiety and DepressionReally helpful and practical post from Emma Scrivener.

3) How coronavirus is leading to a religious revival – Interesting to see this in the New Statesman. Whilst we all need to be a bit careful with how we process (and share!) our church’s online stats at the moment, there does seem to be something in this.

4) You can’t change your spouse – So much wisdom here. Sarah and Jeff have been very vulnerable in penning this book, but by the looks of the article, it’s going to be a precious help to many of us.

5) Life After Lockdown – Unsurprisingly, there’s much chat online about church ‘after lockdown’. Matthew Hosier takes a step back and considers the ‘Corona Blues‘ pastors may be facing – and what to factor in as we move forward. You might also like ‘How 6 Pastors re Thinking About Reopening’. Cutting to the crunch, here’s a super-practical ‘24 Questions Your Church Should Answer Before People Return‘.

6) Podcast: Does Jesus Really Like Me? – Everything I’m hearing about Dane Ortlund’s new book, Gentle and Lowly: The Heart of Christ for Sinners and Sufferers, makes me want to soak in it asap. That’s why this forty-minute interview with Dane is top of my podcast playlist for next week.

7) A Handy Tip for the Easily Distracted – For something a bit different, this – from Miranda July – is, erm, gold dust?!

Quote of the Week:

“The reputation of Jesus is really important… If I were to become convinced that the rate at which we were gathering as church was being interpreted as unloving or causing fear and worry, I’d slow it down. . . . Going too fast might reveal idolatry.”
