God of Discomfort?

We say we like the idea of a god, but C.S. Lewis thought otherwise. Encountering the God revealed in the person of Jesus Christ is certainly not ‘comfortable’, but would you really want anything less

“An ‘impersonal God’ – well and good.

A subjective God of beauty, truth and goodness, inside our own heads – better still.

A formless life-force surging through us, a vast power which we can tap – best of all.

But God Himself, alive, pulling at the other end of the cord, perhaps approaching at an infinite speed, the hunter, king, husband – that’s quite another matter.”

Miracles, p.94. Cited in Randy Newman, Bringing the Gospel Home, p.83.
