Are You Lost In The World Like Me?

If you want a fascinating and powerful exposure of so much of what goes under the label of ‘Western culture’, then just watch this music video from Moby & The Void Pacific Choir for their latest track, Are You Lost In The World Like Me?

As Tom Sweatman has commented,

“So connected yet so lonely. So entertained yet so bored. So ‘happy’ yet so lost.”

It’s the first video to be released from their debut album, These Systems Are Failing – and the fantastic animation is credited to Steve Cutts.

As well as boredom/entertainment and connectedness/loneliness, I think it captures a real sense of slavery too. The characters in the film are not free, despite what they might think and despite all the choice and technology at their fingertips. Maybe, as the film repeatedly states, our systems are failing us? And maybe our systems aren’t just the government and the media, but the very foundations and beliefs we’re building our lives upon.

Along similar lines, session 4 of Life Explored is titled The Liberating God, and asks the question: “What is the one thing you have that you dread being asked to let go of?”
