The Sunday Refill – 7 Links for Your Weekend (13/10/19)

Seven up…

1) Free access to ESV.org subscription plan for those in ministry outside of the US – Crossway publish the English Standard Version Bible translation, and are offering free access to their basic subscription package for the ESV.org site. It features a host of robust Bible study resources, including: 7 study Bibles, including the award-winning ESV Study Bible, streaming Bible audio and dozens of interactive reading plans. It looks like a good’un!

2) A Beginners Guide To Parkinson’s Law: How To Do More Stuff By Giving Yourself Less Time – You’ll know Parkinson’s Law, even if not by name: ‘Our work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion.’ Know the feeling? Here’s some thoughts on how to tackle it.

3) A new language for the sexual crisis of our generation with Sarah Williams – Oxford-based historian Sarah Williams addresses the current sexual identity crisis from a Christian perspective and has some really thoughtful things to say about how we understand history and the missional value of how we use language.

4) Why Some People Become Lifelong Readers – Some interesting observations in The Atlantic.

5) Catholicism Made Me Protestant – This is a really fascinating and in-depth testimony, not least for the way it takes place over decades.

6) Where Did Gentleness Go as a Pastoral Virtue? – A challenging but stirring call for us to examine the character and fruit that we’re encouraging in ministry.

7) The Best Coleen Rooney & Rebekah Vardy Memes – For something a bit different, ok, it was a hilarious spot of investigative journalism. And whoever coined the WAGatha Christie hashtag deserves an MBE at least. But if that’s a bit low-brow for your Sunday afternoon, then you might like a couple of food-related pieces that caught my eye this week: How America Lost Dinner (on why so many of us are eating alone) and It’s so much more than cooking (on the pressure of meal planning!).

Sharing is caring. Know someone who might find these links interesting? Why not forward it on?
