The Sunday Refill – 7 Links for Your Weekend (5/5/19)

Seven up…

1) The World of Line of Duty – I’m massively behind the times on this one, having only just started on season one, but in light of the current popularity about season five, Sarah Allen reflects on watching Line of Duty through the lens of the gospel.

2) Christian persecution ‘at near genocide levels’ – Good to see the UK Foreign Secretary’s review of religious persecution – and thus the mass persecution of Christians across the world – making the BBC news.

3) Make A Difference In Small Towns – I was encouraged by this post giving five reasons why you should consider serving as a ministry trainee in a small town church, rather than automatically considering cities. Inspired? If you’d be interested in serving with us as a Ministry Intern at Grace Church Barrow in September, please get in touch with me!

4) Anglican Consultative Council Meeting – For Anglicans, a few significant moments happened during the 17th meeting of the Anglican Consultative Council meeting in Hong Kong. This is a helpful post from Andrew Goddard regarding the controversy surrounding the debate around invitation for the upcoming Lambeth 2020 Anglican Communion conference. It’s also worth noting the response of the Trustees of the Evangelical Fellowship in the Anglican Communion to recent fairly anti-GAFCON remarks made by the General Secretary of the Anglican Communion. The Church Times also give a remarkably detailed report concerning how the Archbishop of Canterbury acted to try to resolve some of these tensions in the final session of the ACC.

5) Uncover Mark’s Gospel now available – UCCF’s popular Uncover editions of the gospels seem to have been massively fruitful in getting unbelieving students engaging with the word of God. Now UCCF have made their latest edition, Mark’s gospel, available to churches too.

6) Sad Solo – The latest edition of Themelios is out, an online theological journal now hosted by The Gospel Coalition. You could do a lot worse than starting off with this piece, Dan Strange’s column reflecting on the solo climbing documentary, Free Solo, and how it opens up interesting theological conversations about the subject of risk.

7) The Raisin Situation – For something a bit different, check out this fascinating story on Mafia meetings, gossip, death threats and government hearings. Oh, and it’s all about raisins…
