Excellent piece from Christians In Sport here on the Armstrong Confessions media storm, cautioning against impulsive band-wagon jumping. Here’s a sample:
But before we jump on some bandwagons and shake our fists too vigorously as we cry “shame on you” it is worth reflecting on perhaps the most uncomfortable revelation of all. As sensational as this interview was, in reality it was very mundane. Not mundane because we have heard it before in other interviews with other fallen heroes, but mundane because we have surely heard it before in our own internal stories. For Armstrong’s story of deception and denial, manipulation and manoeuvring, is as much our story… Often we point the finger at others because it means we don’t have to look to ourselves.
