The Sunday Refill (10/11/24) - 7 Links for Your Weekend
Seven up...
1) New Getty Song Rivals ‘In Christ Alone’ - Unashamedly clickbait heading, but I've been enjoying this new song from the Gettys. Trevin Wax raves - and reckons it's worth taking home to your church.
2) The Autonomy Trap - This is gooood. Despite how it's often sold, autonomy is not inherently fulfilling; rather, people experience deeper meaning through interdependence and mutual support... worth a long mull.
3) Lessons from Lausanne - Chris Howles is such a wise head when it comes to thinking about global mission - or global Christianity, let's say. He attended the Fourth Lausanne Congress in Seoul last month. He picks his 25 articles, essays and posts here that capture what happened at that event and what it means for 21st century mission. He also shares 5 lessons/reflections here, and chats with Eric Ortlund on the Deep Roots podcast here.
4) News Anxiety Is a Waste of Time - Cal Newport recently called his fellow Americans to move on from the US election result by considering now 'unplugging' from the American news cycle. Christian historian Thomas Kidd offers some practical suggestions, above, on how to do this.
5) Expand Your Gospel Vocabulary - How to Talk About Sin and Salvation in a Post-Christendom World - Sam Chan is great at getting us thinking about how we communicate the Christian faith.
6) Makin Report Published - English Anglicans and British evangelicals will have probably already come across the long-awaited Makin Report, published this week. It is an Independent Learning Lessons Review into the Church of England’s handling of allegations of serious abuse by the late John Smyth. Bex Chapman offers this analysis.
7) The Best Inventions of 2024 - For something a bit different, so, what might this tell us about humanity in 2024?!
